EBA participated in the Prime-minister’s Economic Council meeting concerning patent holders

On October 21, EBA participated in the Prime-minister’s Economic Council meeting, where patent owners where invited to discuss the alternative proposed by the Ministry of Finance.

Mariana Rufa, the EBA executive director, supported the view of the Ministry of Finance to introduce an alternative to patent, which is a status offered to individuals caring out an independent activity. This alternative would only be offered to commercial physical entities, and not expand on other professions. The goal of these changes is to stop abuses within the actual law on patent holders and encourage small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to disclose their revenues.

For stimulating the development of SMEs, EBA supports the maintenance of a low tax rate and ensuring a transition period for the implementation of a new status.
