EBA facilitates the dialogue between the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) and the meat processing industry

Considering the economic importance of developing the meat production and processing industry in the country, and in order to promote export of meat and meat products, a meeting between ANSA and the processors in the meat industry was organised on 15th of March. The meeting was focused on the current situation in processing and merchandising meat products, as well as on the implementation of article nr. 21 of the Law nr.231 on Domestic Trade.

EBA presented the position of the association regarding deficiencies of the monitoring and supervision system related to meat safety in the meat processing sector. EBA Executive Director, Mrs Mariana Rufa, has reiterated that despite the Domestic Trade Law, which prohibits return of meat products from the retail chains back to the processor, these returns occur and many chains and processors refuse to comply with the requirements of the Domestic Trade Law. She has encouraged ANSA to undertake urgent measures in order to prevent that perishable food of animal origin gets into the public food consumption.
