EBA members and Moldova Competitiveness Project beneficiaries were given more clarity on the Labour Inspection procedure, from the relevant authorities

On January 31st, with grant support by USAID and the Swedish Government, EBA members and the Moldova Competitiveness Project beneficiaries discussed the Draft Decree on Labour Inspection, with the representatives of the Labour State Inspectorate and the Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Protection, in the context of a practical workshop organised by EBA.

Those present consulted the proposed list of acts and procedures subjected to an eventual inspection, discussing its effect on businesses and voicing concrete arguments and improvement measures. The focus was on employer-employee relations and work safety, with topics such as fighting unreported employment, day offs and holiday leaves, dismissals, night shifts payments and occupational fatalities also being touched upon.

The executive director of EBA explained that the prime minister requested such a list of acts for transparency purposes, in the context of an eventual Labour inspection. EBA insisted in stopping the approval of the current form of the list, and creating, instead, a short checklist with the minimal requirements, in accordance with the Labour Code. It is worth underlining that further improvements of the current Decree can only be done by collaborating with the public authorities.

EBA thanks the public authorities for accepting the invitation to attend such an important workshop and reminds its members and beneficiaries to send their proposals to the association, so that the modifications can be made on time and in the private sector’s interest.

This event was organised by EBA with the support of Moldova Competitiveness Project, financed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
