On 23rd of October, at the request of EBA Moldova a dedicated meeting on deficiencies faced by the private sector operating in the area of wood packaging took place in the Ministry of Agriculture Environment and regional development. The key issue voiced out over the meeting was related to unfair competition in the field of wood packaging industry and price setting mechanism generated by tax Evasion and illegal activity of some companies that operate without necessary authorization, thus damaging the state budget and affecting the activity of the reliable companies. The scope of EBA Moldova intervention was to raise awareness of the relevant authorities regarding the need to ensure the appropriate verification of the origin of the imported raw material, which impact the quality of the final product and creates a significant difference of the price for the finished product compared to one offered by producers. Also, EBA Moldova reiterated the importance to support private companies in their entrepreneurial activity by creating the same rules and ensuring fair competition for all the participants on the market.
The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment and was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, Economic Council to the Prime minister, Customs Service, State Tax Service and representatives of the related private companies (importers and producers of wood packaging).
