On 16th of September, the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova in cooperation with European Business Association Moldova organized a public discussion with Mr. Christian Danielsson, Director-General for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, European Commission. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Young European Ambassadors, civil society, business environment and think tanks.
During his speech, Mr. Christian Danielsson highlighted 3 main priorities of the European Commission regarding the agenda of bilateral cooperation with Moldova, as follows: 1. strengthening the rule of law, 2. improving the business environment for the entrepreneurs and investors, 3. protection of the democracy. In this respect, the European Union committed to provide its support to the Republic of Moldova for the achievement of the respective priorities. At the meeting, the representatives of the Young European Ambassadors, civil society, business community, think tanks emphasized on the need to ensure a demand driven approach in the field of education system, good governance and the energy security challenges in the country, need of EU support in terms of justice reform and qualitative implementation of the AA/DCFTA.
Also, Mrs. Mariana Rufa, Executive Director of EBA Moldova underlined main key reforms needed to ensure an economic development of the country from the perspective of the business environment, such as proper implementation of AA/DCFTA (food safety system, laboratory infrastructure, quota distribution for some imported goods), elimination of monopoly on the export of ferrous and non-ferous metals, competition, internal trade law, customs procedures (mutual recognition of AEO status, proper customs evaluation procedures), banking and insurance system, waste management and implementation of EPR principles, data protection by transposal of GDPR, etc.
