EBA round table on priority issues the Automotive Sector is facing in Moldova

On 24th of January 2018, EBA organized a meeting on priority issues the automotive sector is facing in Moldova. The event is part of the project “Advocacy activities for the fortification of the automotive sector in Moldova”, a Local Subsidy Grant granted to EBA Moldova by GIZ Moldova. The meeting was organized with the support of Economic Council to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.

The round table was attended by 35 participants, out of which, up to 20 companies, representatives from automotive sector. The event also involved representatives of various public authorities, namely Prime Minister Economic Council, the Customs Service, Tax Service, Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, Ministry of Education and other relevant authorities.

The opening speeches were made by Thomas Moser, EBA President and Veaceslav Sutchevici, Investment Promotion Manager from GIZ Moldova and Diana Levcenco, Expert of Prime Minister Economic Council. Mariana Rufa, EBA Executive Director moderated the discussion with the private sector aimed at identifying issues faced by the automotive industry. Such areas as Tax Policy, Customs Procedure, Labor Code, Waste Management issues and Education have been tackled upon over the discussion.

As a follow-up to this meeting, all the issues exposed will be evaluated and analyzed in separate position papers developed by EBA Moldova and presented to the relevant public authorities, in order to accelerate the procedures of eliminating the barriers that automotive sector is facing in Moldova. Necessary technical meetings with relevant authorities shall be organized to address the issues and promote their resolution.

The project also provides further technical and practical actions aiming at empowering and enhancing the capacities and skills of the management staff of the automotive industry in such areas as rules of origins, taxation issues, Customs Procedures, new Labor Code and Waste Management regulations.
