At 5th of June, Ministry of Environment conducted the international scientific practical conference “Environment and climate change: from vision to action” in the context of global day of environment.
The conference served as a platform of discussions, exhange of experience and knowledge in regards to the aspects of improving the quality of the environment, among the topics discussed being: integrated management of waste, collection of packaging waste, ecologic education, promoting energy efficiency and of non-polution technologies, but also the concrete steps that are to be made in order to reduce the phenomenon of climate change and adaptation to its effects.
Taking into account the active implication of EBA Moldova in the domain of solid waste management and creation of sectorial comittee in this regard, EBA Moldova participated at the conference, reiterating the importance of elaborating a legislative framework necessary in the domain of solid waste management, and engagement of RM included in the Association Agreement. Mrs. Mariana Rufa, executive director of EBA Moldova presented the actions of EBA Moldova in this regard, and has mentioned about the existance of EBA sectorial comittee on environment issues and encouraged the business environemnt as well as the local public authorities to be actively implicated in elaborating the legislation in question, presenting its comments on the existing draft law elaborated by the Ministry of Environemnt. Mrs. Sabine Strnad, international expert from the behalf of EBA and Coca Cola Hellenic presented the practice of Romania and Bulgaria as well as the best examples of functioning of solid waste management systems at the international level. Mrs. Rufa mentioned about the importance of secondary legislation that should clearly stipulate the roles and responsabilities of each component from the system as well as the existance of a mechanism of payment that will support the viability of the entire system.
