Mr. Dorin Junghietu, Minister of Energy, in dialogue with the business community on topics of major importance, focusing on the development of the energy sector in the Republic of Moldova in the context of the Ministry of Energy's Agenda for 2026.
The priority topics addressed by the business community were:
- Liberalization of energy markets
- Energy security
- Modernization of energy infrastructure – both in terms of generation and balancing and integration of renewable sources
- And, of course, continued alignment with European Union policies.
The Republic of Moldova is approaching an installed capacity of 1,000 MW from renewable sources, and in the coming period there may be situations of renewable energy surplus. In this regard, the development of energy storage systems (BESS) is essential.
The importance of a balanced approach to generation, which is not limited exclusively to renewable sources but also includes flexibility solutions, remains imperative. In this context, the tenders for balancing services organized by Moldelectrica and private investments in gas-fired power plants are seen as necessary tools for system stability.
Businesses are particularly interested in the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and its impact on the economy. It was agreed to organize information workshops for the business community, dedicated to raising awareness of the rules of the mechanism and how it will be applied.
The exercise of mapping permissive acts and systemic debureaucratization, aimed at improving the investment climate and stimulating the development of the private sector, with a particular focus on strategic sectors, including the energy and renewable energy sectors, was another topic discussed, which will be subject to public consultation in the near future in the interests of citizens and the development of the national economy.
