On June 22, a meeting took place within the Trade Facilitation working group, presided by EBA, of the Economic Council to the Prime Minister. The discussions were focused on customs valuation.
The meeting was organised as a result of the multiple complaints from the business community, which signals the imperfections of the customs valuation system for imported goods. Among some of the identified problems is the imposed duty which exceeds the cost of the imported product, the difference in customs valuation between border crossing points, and the lack of argumentation for refusing customs valuation at the price declared by the importer.
Customs Service mentioned its openess to collaborate with the representatives of the private sector, who will prepare several proposals of improving the legislation. The proposals will continue to be debated on the platform of the Economic Council.
