On March 4, 2026, a meeting of Working Group No. 6 on “Labor Market Development” was held under the auspices of the Economic Council attached to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova. The event brought together representatives of public authorities and the business community to discuss current labor market challenges and mechanisms for attracting foreign labor.
During the discussions, the business community emphasized that the labor shortage remains one of the most pressing challenges for the economy, particularly for sectors such as manufacturing, automotive, animal husbandry, construction, and services.
Among the main issues discussed were:
- the need to simplify and digitize documentation procedures for foreign workers;
- expanding the list of countries from which labor can be recruited;
- reducing the duration of migration procedures and establishing clear deadlines for reviewing applications;
- improving institutional cooperation in the process of admitting and hosting foreign workers.
