EBA organized a hands-on seminar on the ETS and CBAM mechanisms

On March 25, the EBA organized a practical seminar on the ETS (Emissions Trading System) and CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism), led by Mr. Alexandru Săndulescu, Senior EU Advisor on Energy.

The discussions focused on recent developments at the European level in the field of climate policy, with an emphasis on:
• the functioning and impact of the EU ETS on industry and the energy sector
• the CBAM and its implications for international trade
• new reporting and compliance obligations for businesses
• challenges and opportunities for the Republic of Moldova in the context of alignment with the EU acquis

The event provided participants—EBA member companies from the energy and industrial sectors, as well as invited state-owned enterprises—with a practical perspective on how carbon pricing policies will influence the business environment in the coming years, as well as on the steps needed to adapt.

At the same time, the EBA recently submitted a Position Paper to the Ministry of the Environment with proposals to amend the draft Law on Environmental Payments and Fees: https://bit.ly/4rQYBvz 

The recommendations aim to ensure clarity in the regulatory framework, avoid double taxation, apply taxes proportionally, and align with European Union practices, with the goal of protecting the environment without undermining the competitiveness of the business environment.
