The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, convened the National Commission for European Integration, in a new composition, appointed by presidential decree.
The addition of new members to the Commission comes from the need for greater involvement in the EU accession process, both from the state, civil society and the private sector. "This effort must be one of the entire society: of the private sector, of the academic environment, of civil society representatives, but also of those from the diaspora," said the head of state. At the same time, she welcomed the change in the structure of the Government with the inclusion of the new position of Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration and the establishment of the Office for European Integration, which aims to coordinate the accession process.
The agenda of the meeting included several topics related to the acceleration of the accession process to the European Union. The members of the commission analyzed the progress of the evaluation process of the national legislation and the preparations for its adjustment to the Community acquis. Also today, the contributions of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union Enlargement Package for 2024 were discussed, a document that evaluates the current situation and the progress made by candidate countries for EU membership, such as the Republic of Moldova.
The President emphasized the need to qualitatively accelerate the progress regarding the accession to the European Union. Thus, the members of the commission were urged to ensure the immediate implementation of the National Action Plan for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union for the years 2024-2027.
