Eu Moldova Candidacy – Round Table Discussion, event organized by EBA Moldova, with the participation of distinguished guests: Mr. Siegfried Mureșan, Member of the European Parliament, Chairman of the Delegation to the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee, Mr. Janis Mazeiks, EU Ambassador in Chisinau, the President in honor of EBA Moldova, Mr. Radu Marian, President of the Economy, Budget and Finance Parliamentary Committee, Mr. Dumitru Alaiba Vice-Premier, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization. The purpose of the event was to present the key policy priorities deriving from the agenda of the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the EU and discuss the challenges that the business was facing at the moment.
The event was launched by DL Siegfried Mureșan, who presented the support package from the EU to support the accession process of the Republic of Moldova to the EU, as well as Romania's example in the accession process, the economic development framework, including by attracting investments after the country became a member of the EU.
The MEP reiterated the need to implement the framework of reforms deriving from the conditionality of accession, as well as the financial support that the Republic of Moldova will benefit from in this regard and that will be directed towards investments in infrastructure and supporting entrepreneurs.
Mr. Janis Mazeiks mentioned all the involvement of the EU Delegation team as well as the team of senior advisers who were delegated by the EU Commission to support the reform process in the Republic of Moldova.Mr pointed out how important is the implementation of justice reform, which is the basis of the process of attracting investments in a country.
Mr. Radu Marian welcomed the involvement of EBA Moldova in the public-private dialogue on a series of legislative initiatives, which, as a result, led to the identification of solutions to ensure compliance of these laws with the Community Acquis. Mr mentioned the need for the entry into force of the Customs Code, the competition law, the urban planning code, etc., all of which have an impact on business.
Mr. Dumitru Alaiba appreciated the association's involvement in legislative initiatives focused on business deregulation, also mentioning the digitization of some business processes, which will consequently optimize costs, time and budgets of economic agents.
The business community addressed the subject of the enormous queues at customs and the negative effect on business, disrupting trade relations between economic agents in the Republic of Moldova and partners in the EU. The negative impact of the risk of applying expensive penalties in the event of not honoring the contractual conditions was mentioned. It was also mentioned the need to expand access to ODA financing for medium-sized economic agents, so that they can increase production and catalyze exports to the EU. The business environment appreciated the openness of the Government and the European Commission, guaranteeing all the necessary support to support the government in this important process for the sustainable development of the country.
