Today, in the premises of hotel Codru in Chsinau, the European Union Delegation (EUD) to the Republic of Moldova, in joint cooperation with the European Business Association (EBA) and the Economic Stimulation in Rural Area Budget Support Programme Technical Assistance Project (ESRA BSP TA) organised a roundtable on "the Strengthening of the Role of the Private Sector in achieving Inclusive and Sustainable Growth in Developing Countries".

The event, attended by close to 50 participants representing Moldovan businesses, foreign investors in Moldova, Moldovan banking entities and Moldovan business associations and organisations, aimed at obtaining feedback of the Moldovan private sector stakeholders in view of the planned formulation of the European Commission's Communication Paper on "Strengthening of the Role of the Private Sector in achieving Inclusive and Sustainable Growth in Developing Countries".
This Communication Paper, once finalised and adopted, will form the overall framework of the European Union's cooperation with the private sector in establishing inclusive and sustainable growth strategies in the various partner countries of the European Union, including the Republic of Moldova.
The event consisted of two parts with one part aiming to identify the priorities of the private sector in economic development from a Moldovan private sector point of view, while the second part focussed on the practical implications of the current European Union-Republic of Moldova Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA).
Both parts were structured around a general presentation (for the first part key presenter was Mr. Wicher Slagter, Head of the Political and Economic Section of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova and for the second part key presenter was HE Octavian Calmic, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Moldova) followed by a lively and in-depth roundtable discussion.
All participants to the event positively commented on the initiative of both the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Economy to actively engage with the Moldovan private sector in such important topics and expressed their wish that similar events, covering other policy subjects of interest to the Moldovan private sector, would be organised in the future.
