On 18th of February, at EBA initiative, the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure organized a technical meeting aiming to consolidate the Cross Border cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Romania in the context of Romanian Presidency at the Council of the EU.
In this respect, EBA proposed to launch an open dialogue between representatives of the Moldovan and Romanian authorities in order to address the deficiencies faced by the private sector in their activities related to the import / export procedures at the border crossing points between the two sides. The main issues identified are related to the nonrecognition by EU of the AEO status offered by the RM and the creation of queues at the Romanian border, thus finally generating delays of contracts (just-on-time contracts) implying additional financial costs incurred by the private sector. At the same time, there are several issues in the field of food safety, and in particular the importance of the mutual recognition of veterinary and phytosanitary certificates.
We would like to mention the openness and readiness of the relevant central public authorities to address these issues. As a result, it was decided that the deficiencies faced by the private sector related to the cooperation with Romania will be collected and submitted to the Romanian Government through diplomatic channels.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the Customs Service, National Agency for Food Safety and Economic Council to the Prime Minister.
