Brussels Policy Visit – Day 3, marked by a dynamic agenda and meaningful, in-depth meetings

The day began with a constructive discussion with Mr. Eugen Tomac, Member of the European Parliament, who reiterated the European Union’s strong support for the Republic of Moldova. During the meeting, he emphasized the importance of continuing the reform agenda and highlighted the need to create a guarantee fund for Romanian investments in Moldova—an essential tool for boosting investment interest in the region.

Later, the delegation had the opportunity to engage with the team from the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW) of the European Commission. Discussions focused on the deregulation and legislative simplification initiative recently announced by President Ursula von der Leyen, aimed at creating a more attractive investment climate across the European Union and within the national legislation of Member States.

The day concluded with a valuable meeting with Mr. Victor Negrescu, Vice-President of the European Parliament and an active supporter of the Republic of Moldova. Following discussions with the delegation, Mr. Negrescu expressed his willingness to support Moldova in several key areas: enhancing the country’s capacity to access major EU-funded projects, backing priority initiatives within the reform context, and strengthening the institutional capacity of Moldova’s public administration.

The delegation is composed of representatives from the Secretariat of the Economic Council to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, members of business associations such as Moldova Fruct Association, the National Federation of Farmers, “Agro Oguz” Association, economic journalists, representatives of EBA Moldova and Helvetas Moldova, the Head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Office in Moldova, representatives of the EU Delegation to Chișinău, and the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization.

The main purpose of the visit is to promote and support the European integration path of the Republic of Moldova, with a strong focus on the concrete implementation of the Growth Plan. In this context, the aim is to advance reforms in key areas and stimulate sustainable economic development based on increasing added value in the real economy.

The visit was organized by EBA and Helvetas Moldova, with financial support from the AJE Program – Economic Journalism Academy.
