EBA sustains transparent and effective models of fiscal reformation

On 21st October 2015, EBA Moldova organized a working dinner with the former Minister of Finance of Georgia, Aleksi Aleksishvili who held the office from June 2005 until September 2007, during the first term of the Government lead by Mikheil Saakashvili. Alongside EBA board and members, the Moldovan Minister of Finance, mr. Anatol Arapu also attended the meeting.  

During his presentation, mr. Aleksishvili talked about fiscal policy reforms that were essential to Georgia’s modernization and improvement in international rankings, such as Doing Business or Global Competitiveness Index. In particular, he touched upon issues referring to tax policy, customs and revenue service reforms.

Mr. Aleksishvili stressed that the successful implementation of fiscal reforms in Georgia was possible due to solid political will and support. In terms of specific measures taken to meet this objective, he mentioned about the need to simplify the tax system, centralize the system of fiscal authorities, reduce corruption, de-monopolize the key sectors of the economy and work on building trust of business towards the Government.
