E-KYC Regulation - a priority on the EBA agenda

The e-KYC Regulation (Regulation on requirements for identification and verification of customer identity by electronic means) - a priority topic on the EBA agenda.

On October 3, 2024, the EBA Community ( in partnership with the Association of Moldovan Banks (ABM) participated in a meeting with representatives of the National Bank of Moldova, during which the proposals for improvement of the draft Regulation on Requirements for Customer Identification by Electronic Means were discussed in detail.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Vladimir Munteanu, First Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Moldova and chaired by Mr. Gheorghe Badia, Head of the AML Directorate of the NBM.

Together with colleagues from the financial-banking sector, the EBA presented the priorities of the community, including:
Clarification of the requirements on anomalous geographical identification of customers;
Adjusting technical requirements for biometric verification solutions;
Excluding some provisions requiring additional manual verification when data is extracted from official sources.

The National Bank of Moldova team reiterated its openness to analyze the suggestions discussed with the representatives of the financial-banking market. The Regulation will shortly be promoted for approval.
